The India National Women’s Team batter Jemimah Rodrigues, who was ruled out of the Hundred 2026 while playing for the Southern Brave, has now also been ruled out of the forthcoming Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan. This is a big blow for Harmanpreet Kaur’s side as she has been one of the most reliable middle-order batters.
Last Saturday, she sustained a hamstring injury, which ruled her out of the Hundred competition. She was replaced by all-rounder Charlie Knott in the Southern Brave squad last week. Jemimah has been one of the Indian stars who have been participating in the Hundred. She looked in good touch in the competition post the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Jemimah Rodrigues ruled out of Asia Cup; India names replacement
Now that Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup and the Asian Games 2026 in Japan, the Women in Blue management will have a headache. Though she has been replaced by Pratika Rawal in the squad, Jemi’s experience and current form were among the reasons she was crucial to the squad.
Jemimah's majority of the injury was confirmed after she was assessed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s Medical Team at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. It is reported that she has suffered a high-grade hamstring tear.
“Jemimah Rodrigues sustained a right hamstring injury on 3rd August while playing in The Hundred in England. The BCCI Medical Team clinically assessed her at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and the assessment confirmed a high-grade tear. Consequently, she has been ruled out of the upcoming ACC Women’s Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan,” a BCCI press release said.
Is Pratika Rawal a like-for-like replacement?
Pratika Rawal has been added to the squad as she is yet to make a debut for the Women in Blue squad in the shorter format of the game. She has been a talented batter in the ODI format and was part of India's ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025-winning squad, as she was ruled out during India's final league match against Bangladesh.
After her impressive performances in the India A team, she has been added as the replacement for Jemimah Rodrigues, which also provides the team with a reliable top-order batter. Though she is not a like-for-like replacement for Jemimah Rodrigues, as the latter has been a consistent performer for Team India.
India begins Asia Cup on August 30
Jemi's form in the T20 World Cup was not as good, as she could score only 94 runs. However, she scored 143 runs in six innings for the Brave in the Hundred 2026 at an average of 35.75 and a strike rate of 131.19 and single-handedly won two matches out of the 6 matches she featured.
The Asia Cup 2026 is set to begin on August 28, with Hong Kong taking on Thailand in the opening game. India will begin its campaign against Thailand on August 30.
