Premier England batter Joe Root has come out in favor of the Australian Cricket Team over the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow in the Ashes. He said that the dismissal was within the laws and had his teammate stayed inside the crease he wouldn't have been out.

One of the major talking points of the Ashes 2023 was the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow in the Lord's Test. The England batter was stumped out and it was the biggest moment of the series as even the fans were involved in it and had spat with the players.

Jonny Bairstow left the crease after playing the drive and walked from his crease too early. Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey seized the opportunity to run the batter out as he hit the stumps from behind and the England batter was found short of his crease.

Jonny Bairstow was livid with the way he was given out and even other England players were furious too. The dismissal even invited the spirit of the cricket debate as many fans and experts too gave their take on the same and lashed out at the Australian team.

Now one year later after the incident, Joe Root stated that he was very angry Initially but he now has realized that it was within the rules. He admitted that Jonny Bairstow might hate him after his statement but added that no one can get him out if he is in the crease. Speaking in a documentary released by ECB, he stated:

“Initially I was quite angry, but I think when you’re involved in the game it’s very difficult to put yourself in the other position. So I’d like to say I would have dealt with it differently, but I could very easily have done the same thing.

“At the end of the day, it’s within the laws of the game. You should be aware as a player. Jonny will hate me saying this, but if you stay in your crease you can’t get given out can you?”

The documentary released by the ECB also reflected how excited Jonny Bairstow was to take the field on Day 5 of the game. He had expressed his excitement to see one of the amazing days in England Cricket. He had stated:

“Look I can’t wait for tomorrow. We’ve been a part of some special things over the last 18 months. And for me, it just feels like it could potentially be one of those amazing days, and someone just stands up and puts their name on the board, makes a contribution, sticks your chest out, front up and we’ll be fine.”

The video also showed Moeen Ali's comments on the same. He stated: “I always felt Jonny leaves his crease so early, he leaves the ball and just walks straight down, and I always felt he leaves early,” he concluded.
