The visitors were invited to bat first in the second game after losing the toss. Jos Buttler once again led from the front with the bat while the other batters struggled to get going.
England eventually managed to post 165/9 on the board despite no batter playing a big knock, as almost everyone came up with small yet impactful contributions.
Defending the total, the England bowlers brought out their best and troubled the Indian batters right from the start. They picked up wickets at regular intervals and took the match to the last over.
The visitors, however, weren't able to dismiss Tilak Varma, who played an exceptional knock of 72* runs and handed England their second loss in the series.
It was a great game - Jos Buttler
Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Jos Buttler lauded Tilak Varma for his heroics and said that he took the game away from England. He said:
"It was a great game. All credit to Tilak for getting them over the line. We created a lot of chances, really aggressive, pushed them really close."
Jos Buttler further said that he was happy with the performance of his team with the bat and was hopeful of the players improving their game.
"Really pleased with the way we went about with the bat. We lost a few wickets but the aggression was there. Really happy with the style we played. Lots of positives. The way Jamie Smith played was fantastic. We can always improve and we are happy with the style," Jos Buttler said.
How England Performed in 1st T20I Against India in Kolkata?
England suffered a crushing defeat in the 1st T20I against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, losing by seven wickets with 43 balls to spare. Despite a solid performance by captain Jos Buttler, their overall batting and bowling effort was poor.
Batting first, England managed to post a below-par total of 132 runs in their 20 overs. Jos Buttler was the standout performer with a brilliant 68 off 44 balls, showcasing his class with eight fours and two sixes.
However, he received little support from the rest of the lineup. Phil Salt, Ben Duckett, and Liam Livingstone fell cheaply, unable to handle India’s disciplined bowling.
The mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy (3/23) spun a web around England’s middle order, while Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh chipped in with two wickets each.
Defending 132, England's bowling attack struggled to make early inroads. Although Jofra Archer bowled effectively, picking up two wickets, including Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav, the rest of the bowlers were expensive.
Abhishek Sharma’s scintillating knock of 79 from 34 balls shattered England’s hopes of a comeback as his batting left the bowlers with no answers.
