Jos Buttler is set to miss the upcoming tri-nation ODI series in Pakistan because of the hamstring injury which he received while batting in Thursday's second one-day international against Sri Lanka at Headingley. In place of the injured keeper-batter, Jordan Cox is likely to travel with the England national cricket team to Pakistan for the tri-nation ODI series.
The hamstring injury also makes Jos Buttler uncertain for the white-ball series against the Australian national cricket team. England's white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum told the media that it is hard to judge when the experienced keeper-batter will make a return for the national cricket team.

His return is a major blow for the team, as they are currently preparing for the upcoming ODI World Cup,p which will be next year.
"We know Jos is an incredible athlete; we know he is supremely fit and is an ultra-professional. He will do everything he can to be back as soon as possible," Brendon McCullum stated.
The England cricket team will also tour to Australia for a white-ball series in November. Ahead of the high-profile main series, the touring team is expected to play multiple practice matches on the land of the Aussies.

For the white-ball series, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is yet to finalize their main squad. The main squad is expected to be around a fresh batch of centrally contracted players. According to a BBC report published on September 28, the ECB will finalise their squads on Monday.
Brendon McCullum made it clear that Buttler will not be available for the series in Pakistan, which will be a massive blow for the England cricket team.
"Jos won’t be in Pakistan," limited-overs coach Brendon McCullum confirmed.

But McCullum refused to stay only with disappointment, as every coin has two oppositesidess. In the absence of the 36-year-old, there will be an emerging cricketer in the playing combination, which will add more excitement to the game. McCullum pointed out that there is only one year and a couple of months ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. In the meantime, the team management may have to preparapre for some unexpected events.
"It’s disappointing not to have Jo,s but it will be good for us to see where we’re at. Between now and 14 months’ time, lots of things will go wron;, there’ll be lots of selections you think will happen and someone will get inju,red or there’ll be a scheduling issue. You almost have to catastrophise these things a little to prepare yourself for that World Cup," the England head coach said.
Jos Buttler was in good form during the Sri Lanka series. In the previous match for the England cricket team on September 24 in Leeds, he scored 69 runs. In his last five international matches, Buttler secured three fifty-plus run knocks and two thirty-plus run innings.
