Josh Hazlewood builds his perfect T20 fast bowler, picks multiple qualities of Jasprit Bumrah
RCB speedster Josh Hazlewood has returned to the IPL and is playing his part in RCB's race to defend their first-ever IPL title. He has now opined on the most suited T20 pacer and has crafted one himself.
The big Australian fellow is often known as one of the most accurate fast bowlers in cricket history, especially in T20 cricket. Hazlewood often reminds us of the legendary Glenn McGrath, who was so accurate with the control over his line and length.
Having finished IPL 2025 with 20+ wickets and having picked wickets in this season as well, Hazlewood, despite his injury, has looked in good shape and has bowled his complete quota of overs. His four runs over at the death against David Miller and Tristan Stubbs brought RCB back into the game in their previous game against the Delhi Capitals.
Josh Hazlewood picks young Indian speed gun
Recently, during a fun chat with RCB pacer Josh Hazlewood, he was asked to build a world-class T20 bowler and was asked to pick a player for every attribute that he is asked to pick for.
Josh Hazlewood had to start with speed, which is very important for a fast bowler. He did not cite the likes of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, or Lockie Ferguson, but rather picked two Indian pacers with raw pace.
Hazlewood suggested KKR pacer Kartik Tyagi and LSG pacer Mayank Yadav, and claimed that they have some express speed. However, he missed Ashok Sharma, who has clocked the fastest ball in this edition of the TATA IPL. Mayank is yet to play a game, while Kartik has been bowling well for the Knight Riders.
Hazlewood shies away from picking himself, picks Kagiso Rabada for what he does best
Josh Hazlewood is almost the ideal T20 bowler himself, with exceptional control over his line and length, his ability to start with the new ball and then bowl yorkers in the death. However, he did not pick himself for any of these attributes.
He picked Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada for their control over line and length and went with Jasprit Bumrah, the legendary fast bowler, for his variations. He then picked out Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his toe-crushing yorkers.
He then picked Kagiso Rabada again for the bouncers, which can blow off one's head, and made his first Aussie pick in the form of Mitchell Starc, citing his wicket-taking ability as the best in the world.
Hazlewood suggests Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the best bowlers
Lastly, coming to phase-wise brilliant bowling, Josh Hazlewood picked Jasprit Bumrah as the best ever death overs bowler, while citing the wickets tally while picking Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the best with the new ball.
He finally picked himself when asked to pick a player with stunning game awareness for a paceman. However, he acknowledged that fast bowlers are getting wiser and are more aware of the conditions of play.
Lastly, he picked Jasprit Bumrah again when it came to pick an 'aura' for a T20 fast bowler. It seems so true that Bumrah, as a fast bowler, relishes some tremendous stardom and immense hype.
