"Just because Sanju Samson got out early"- Dinesh Karthik fires warning to Gautam Gambhir

Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has predicted Sanju Samson's future in India colors. Karthik believes that Samson is a highly talented player and will do well for India in the future.

Sanju Samson was recently a part of the T20I series for India's tour of Sri Lanka. With Rishabh Pant also in the squad, Samson was the second-choice wicketkeeper behind him. Samson got his first chance in the second T20I when Gill was ruled out due to a back spasm. However, the wicketkeeper-batter could not grab his opportunity and was dismissed for a golden duck while playing as an opener.

Since India had already won the series before the third T20I, Samson got another opportunity to make a mark. But the 29-year-old failed again and was dismissed for a second consecutive duck to mark off a poor series with the bat.

Dinesh Karthik predicts Sanju Samson's future in international cricket

During a segment on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik spoke about Sanju Samson's lack of opportunities in international cricket. Karthik feels that having a quality wicketkeeper like Rishabh Pant makes it hard for Samson to get continuous opportunities.

"You have someone like Rishabh Pant and he has done pretty well in T20 cricket. It is going to be hard. But I can tell you one thing. Sanju Samson is a fighter. If he gets the opportunity, he is going to do phenomenally well," Karthik said in the video posted by Cricbuzz on X (formerly Twitter).

Karthik also believes that one poor score doesn't make Samson a bad player by any means and he will always remain a special player. He predicted Samson to do well for India in the future as well.

"Just because he got out in the second T20, doesn't mean he had a bad series. I believe he is a special player. He is someone who is level-headed, handles situations well. He has a bright future. He is going to do well for India. I have no doubt about it," Karthik added.

Sanju Samson fails to impress in the series against Sri Lanka

Samson was also a part of India's 15-member squad that won the T20 World Cup 2024 title in June 2024. Adding to his batting woes, Samson also dropped three catches in the series against Sri Lanka.

This does not augur well for his future as India has several young and talented wicketkeeper-batters who are waiting in the wings to get an opportunity. Dhruv Jurel is one wicketkeeper whom the selectors have trusted in the last few months and even made his T20I debut in the series against Zimbabwe.

These are alarm bells for Sanju Samson and if he is not able to take his chances, the selectors will be compelled to look at other options like Dhruv Jurel who is younger as well.
