Kane Williamson will not field in the second innings - NZC

Williamson has been in great form and expectations were sky-high from him in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai.

He smashed a sensational 81 runs in the group stage match against India and followed it up with a match-winning century against the South Africa National Cricket Team in the semi-final of the competition.

However, he disappointed his fans as well as the New Zealand team management as he failed to deliver with the bat. Williamson only managed to score 11 runs off 14 balls, with 1 four before taking a long walk back to the pavilion.

He was dismissed by the left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav on the second ball of the 13th over. Kuldeep Yadav bowled a full ball around off-stump to Williamson, who was early on his shot and played it straight back towards Kuldeep Yadav, who completed a simple catch.

Kane Williamson was absolutely disappointed after getting out as he shook his head in frustration while looking back.

"Kane Williamson will not field in the second innings of the Champions Trophy final after picking up a quad strain while batting. Mark Chapman has taken his place in the field," New Zealand Cricket said in an official statement.

Kane Williamson has been around forever and is in the form of his life - Nasser Hussain

Speaking on Sky Sports a day ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, the former England skipper Nasser Hussain said that the Kiwis have got a very strong unit.

He added that New Zealand have got the likes of Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner in the playing XI and they will deliver their best performance in the final, which India would also expect.

"So, they have an excellent side. I've been really impressed with Rachin Ravindra at the top of the order. I saw him get 100 in Pindi against Bangladesh and I just didn't forget, but because I hadn't seen him recently, it's just a reminder of not just the runs he gets, but how elegant he looks at the crease. He has so much time," Nasser Hussain said.

"I think he's now got 5 hundreds in ICC events and he's only played a couple of them. So, he is in fantastic nick. Santner with the ball and the bat, Phillips in the field, Kane Williamson has been around forever and is in the form of his life.

"So, I said the other day to you, they won't bottle it. They'll rock up and put on their best performance and if it's not good enough to beat India, so be it, but they will put on their best performance and India will expect them to put on their best performance."
