Kane Williamson Set To Join New Zealand Team Ahead Of Test Series Against England
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will be joining the New Zealand team’s touring party that is in England for a crucial 3-match Test series that begins at the Lord’s on June 2.
Williamson recently left the IPL 2022 season ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) final game of the season as he and his wife were expecting a baby. They were blessed with a baby boy and the Kiwi skipper had posted a picture of the same on his social media.
This will also mark the return of Williamson to the Test setup after his recurring elbow injury had flared up once again during New Zealand’s tour of India last year.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Devon Conway and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer, Tim Southee, have already joined up with the Kiwi team after their respective franchises failed to make it to the playoffs.
Daryl Mitchell and Neil Wagner will be reaching the UK on Wednesday, just a day before their second tour match against a Counties XI team in Essex.
First New Zealand tour game marred by rain
New Zealand played its first game against Sussex last week but days 1 and 4 were washed out. However, Tom Latham was satisfied with the batting performance as four batters were able to get good practice and score half-centuries.
“I think it was a really valuable couple of days for us here, especially from a bowling point of view — that competitive nature of bowling in a game rather than in the nets — and I think the batsmen got that as well from the match intensity,” he said.
