On Sunday, July 24, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced the ODI and T20I squad for the forthcoming tour of the West Indies, which will be the first trip of the BlackCaps to the Caribbean since 2014.

Kane Williamson is all set to lead the 15-member squad of the BlackCaps and veteran players including the likes of Martin Guptill, Trent Boult and Tim Southee have been included in the squad. Also, new players like Finn Allen and Michael Bracewell have been added to the lineup.

The BlackCaps will be playing three T20Is and three ODIs on the tour. The T20Is will be played on August 11, 13 and 15 while the ODIs will be played on August 17, 19 and 21.

New Zealand National Cricket Team head coach Gary Stead will be assisted by batting coach Dean Brownlie and bowling coach Graeme Aldridge on the tour.

The BlackCaps head coach Stead expressed excitement at the prospect of travelling to the Caribbean after a long time. He asserted:

“It’s always exciting to be heading somewhere you’ve not been in a while and I know this group can’t wait for the challenge of taking on the West Indies in the Caribbean. Managing workloads is hugely important this year with the team playing some form of cricket every month in 2022 – and this applies to both players and staff.”

He further talked about the senior players, who will be playing white-ball cricket for New Zealand after a very long time. Stead said:

“For Kane, Trent, Tim and Devon, this will be the first time they have played white ball cricket for New Zealand since last year’s T20 World Cup and tour to India – so this trip will be important for them.”

“We also have players such as Michael and Finn who are relatively new to the international stage but have really put their hands up for selection when given opportunities. As a selector it’s been great to see these guys push their cases,” he further said.
