Legendary South Africa National Cricket Team batsman AB de Villiers has fired a massive ‘Jasprit Bumrah’ warning to the Proteas ahead of the Test series between the team in the Rainbow Nation.

The India tour of South Africa 2023-24 consists of a three-match T20I series, a three-match ODI series, and a two-match Test series. The Men In Blue and the Proteas will play two Test matches to wrap up the series with the first Test starting on December 26 in Centurion. The second and final Test will be played from January 3 in Cape Town.

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the T20I and ODI series, but he will lead the pace attack in the Test series. Bumrah will be playing his first Test in the upcoming South Africa tour since July 2022 as he was last seen in action against England in Birmingham before being ruled out of the action due to a back injury.

He was in terrific form in the recently concluded World Cup 2023 at home and was one of the reasons behind India’s dominating performance throughout the competition. He bagged 20 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 18.65, an economy of 4.06, and a strike rate of 27.55.

Jasprit Bumrah is definitely the leader of the pack – AB de Villiers

Speaking to India Today in an interview, De Villiers said that Bumrah will spearhead the Indian attack in the Test series against South Africa. He added that the 29-year-old is very skilful and he troubled the Proteas batters a lot during the last series.

“Bumrah is definitely the leader of the pack. He’s a guy that keeps coming at you. Never stops. He’s got all the skills. He kept us very busy in the last series we played in South Africa.”

“He’s the perfect bowler for those conditions, angling it into the stumps and then just moving it either way from there. He’s a handful, and, he’s gonna keep the South African batters busy. The whole of the Indian bowling attack is the biggest threat for South Africa,” said De Villiers.

India’s squad for SA Tests: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan (wk), KL Rahul (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Mohd. Shami*, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Prasidh Krishna.
