South African star spinner Keshav Maharaj has reclaimed his spot as the number one-ranked ODI bowler in the world after the latest updates in the ICC men's players rankings. The latest updated ICC rankings for the ODI format have seen the spinner rise two places to the No. 1 spot. This is the second time since 2023 that he has claimed the top spot.
The South Africans are after a humiliating loss in the T20I series, where they lost 2-1 despite their great attempts with both bat and ball. Dewald Brevis has come forward as a new player on the side who has raised the standards.
Keshav Maharaj reclaims No. 1 spot in ODI rankings
The South African spinner was recently seen playing the first ODI against Australia, where he tore apart the opposition batting order with a maiden ODI 5-wicket haul. The left-arm spinner climbed two places ahead of Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana and Indian wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav on the updated ranking.
The 35-year-old South African veteran used every inch of his experience, which ensured the Proteas of an impressive 98-run victory. Stand-in skipper Mitchell Marsh remained the only batter in the side to have scored prominent runs, while the rest of the players in the batting order faltered.
Players rank up in ICC Rankings
Other than the spinner, two more experienced men climbed up the rankings to claim the new ICC rankings, as Aiden Markram got up to a new position of 21st rank. On the other hand, Temba Bavuma has also reached new heights in the list of ODI batters.
Shai Hope jumps two spots to the 7th ranking while his side beats Pakistan in a recent ODI series. Marsh was promoted 6 spots to the 52nd spot. West Indies pacer Jayden Seales goes up 17 places to take up the 19th spot in the rankings. Abrara Ahmed from Pakistan also moved 18 places to the 43rd spot.
The currently ongoing series has been taking place between South Africa and the Australian side, while the Pakistan and West Indies sides have also recently ended their ODI series. All these matches concluded in favour of the players, where many have shown some dominating performances which in turn resulted in their improvement of ICC rankings.
Dewald Brevis hits a new high in Rankings
South African youngster Dewald Brevis has been spectacular in the T20 series, where he scored 180 runs in the T20I series with a stunning hundred. His 125* emerged as the highest score ever on the South African side.
Brevis has jumped 9 spots to the 12th overall ranking, while Marsh has taken up the new 25th position, and Glenn Maxwell, the veteran all-rounder, has now climbed to the 30th position, up 10 spots.
Australian seamer Nathan Ellis goes up three positions to embrace the new ninth position, while Josh Hazlewood has also risen two spots to improve to the 18th following some consistent efforts in the T20I series.
