Pakistan opening batsmen Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam have set the T20I stage on fire with their stunning partnerships at the top. It was on full display in the recently concluded T20 World Cup against arch-rivals, India.
They chased down a target of 153 without losing a wicket, which happened to be their third 150-run partnership. The fourth one came on Thursday against West Indies, something no other pair has achieved. Speaking about the secret behind their incredible success, Rizwan said:
“When you have the World No.1 with you at the crease, you don’t need to worry about anything. All you’ve got to do is to observe and learn from the best. The key to our successful partnership is our communication. We keep taking singles, keep setting small targets, target some fielders, which in turn makes it easier for us to dominate,” Rizwan said in a video released by PCB.
“I would give the credit to the management and captain” – Mohammad Rizwan
During the same match, Mohammad Rizwan became the first international batsman to score 2000 T20I runs in a calendar year. Nobody else has even come close to the landmark. When asked about what clicked for him, Rizwan credited his captain and team management.
“I wouldn’t want to take the credit for this. I would give the credit to the management and the captain who pushed me up the batting order and helped me perform the whole year,” Rizwan added.
Babar also had special words of praise for his partner, stating that his belief and confidence have gone up several notches in 2021.
“According to me, I’m privileged to have such a talented cricketer, a wonderful human being, someone who gels everyone together and someone who is looked up to by everyone. The way Rizwan improved his game, confidence levels, and belief in himself is evident for everyone to see in the last one year. I’m happy that he is the leading T20I run-scorer in 2021,” Babar mentioned.
Pakistan ended the year with a crushing 3-0 victory in the T20I series against West Indies.
