Former Australia head coach John Buchanan praised Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25).

However, John Buchanan said that Yashasvi Jaiswal could struggle to adapt to the bouncy conditions in Australia, given he has not played Test cricket in the country.

Jaiswal has amassed 1,028 runs in nine Tests at an average of 68.53, including three centuries and four fifties.

The left-handed batter is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. He is behind England's Joe Root, who has scored 1,165 runs in 15 matches.

The 22-year-old batter will travel to Australia for the first time in his career. He will be the opening partner for Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the five-match Test series.

Jaiswal will face a significant challenge from Australia's fast bowlers, including Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Is An Exciting Young Player - John Buchanan

John Buchanan described Yashasvi Jaiswal as an "exciting player" but warned that he may struggle with the extra bounce in Perth.

Buchanan said that Jaiswal has not played in Australia or on bouncy wickets before, and added that his ability to adapt will be a key factor for India in the series.

"There is a lot of talk about that, is not there? He is an exciting young player, and certainly one to watch, but he would be to me one of those examples. He (Jaiswal) has not played in Australia, or at least he has not played in Perth in a Test match on a wicket that bounces," Buchanan said.

"So, his ability to adjust his game to those conditions in some sense might be a barometer as to how India will go through the series," he added.

Jaiswal has had success in his maiden Test series against the West Indies. The southpaw scored 171 runs in his debut match for India in Test cricket.

However, he struggled in South Africa, where he scored just 28 runs in challenging conditions. The extra bounce in Australia will pose a challenge to him.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Last Seen In Action In Sri Lanka Series

Yashasvi Jaiswal last played for India in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, where he registered scores of 40, 30, and 10.

He was not included in the squad for the subsequent ODI series. Jaiswal is set to participate in the first round of the Duleep Trophy for Team B, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia will begin in Perth on November 22.

The second Test, a day-night match, will be played in Adelaide from December 6 to 10. Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney will host the remaining Tests in the highly anticipated series.

India has secured victories in the last two Test series in Australia. Team India will be hoping to secure their third consecutive victory, while Australia will be aiming to end India's winning run.
