Former Indian keeper-batsman Kiran More has backed Rishabh Pant to lead the Indian side in the future. Rishabh Pant, in his first experience as captain, has captained the Delhi Capitals outstandingly well in the current edition of this IPL as they reached the top of the table by winning six out of eight games. Kiran More believes that the 23-year old has a sharp mind and his mindset makes him capable of leading the nation well.
Rishabh Pant has been in sensational form in the last few months in Test cricket. After playing an instrumental role in the historic series win in Australia, the 23-year old also had an unforgettable home series against England. The southpaw has a formidable record in red-ball cricket, having smashed 1358 runs in 20 Tests at 45.27 with three centuries and six fifties. He has also shone in T20 and ODI cricket in recent times.
Kiran More said that Rishabh Pant has the potential to lead India in the future due to his mental strength and a strong mindset, enabling him to achieve big things. But the former India chief selector also believes that it is up to the individual’s discipline and vision.
“Rishabh Pant has the potential to take the Indian team forward. He can lead the side in future. The kind of mindset he has, he can definitely become the captain of India. Rishabh Pant has a sharp mind, he can achieve a lot of things. But it is also up to the individual, how disciplined you are, how do you see the future,” More told India TV.
The bad phase has made him mentally strong: Kiran More
Kiran More also reminded that Rishabh Pant’s career has been full of ups and downs and that being out of the side has made him mentally strong. The 58-year old remarked that the selectors omitted him from the World Cup squad and most of the subsequent white-ball games, but his comeback in Tests made him a real cricketer. More underlined that the youngster passed the hardest test of coming back after being dropped, proving he belongs at the highest level.
“If you see Rishabh Pant’s graph it has been full of ups and downs. The bad phase has made him mentally strong. He was not picked for the World Cup at first, was dropped from T20Is and ODIs as well. But the way he made a comeback through Test cricket is what makes you a real cricketer. Making a comeback after you get dropped is always the hardest but Pant has shown that he belongs at that level. He will take Indian cricket forward,” he added.
