Fans on Twitter reacted after Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians in the 60th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They won the game by 18 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday (11th May) and became the first team to qualify for playoffs.

In a game that was reduced to 16 overs, Kolkata Knight Riders had a poor start to their innings. Both the in-form openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt (6) perished early. Skipper Shreyas Iyer, who walked out to bat at four, couldn’t get a big score and perished for just four.

With the team tumbling at 40 for three, Venkatesh Iyer (42) and Nitish Rana (33) brought their team back into the game at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Iyer-Rana duo added 37 runs before Andre Russell (24) played a vital hand to keep the team at the top.

In the end, Rinku Singh (20) and Ramandeep Singh (17*) made sure they finished the innings on high. Based on collective effort Kolkata Knight Riders ended with 157/7. For Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla picked two wickets each.

Mumbai Indians had a great start to their innings as Ishan Kishan (40) batted magnificently well. Rohit Sharma (19) struggled at the other end but the duo added 65 runs for the opening stand and after that lost wickets quickly.

With Mumbai Indians struggling at 67/2, Suryakumar Yadav (11) tried to get going but he too perished early. The visitors were in the doldrums as they lost Hardik Pandya and Tim David and were reeling at 92 for five at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Tilak Varma (32) and Naman Dhir (17) kept their team in the hunt with some lusty blows in the end. But couldn’t take their team home as Kolkata won the game by 18 runs and qualified for the playoffs of the IPL 2024.
