Sunil Narine, on Friday (April 26), gave Kolkata Knight Riders the much-needed breakthrough against Punjab Kings in the ongoing game by coming up with a brilliant direct hit to run out the dangerous Prabhsimran Singh at the Eden Gardens.
Chasing an improbable 262, PBKS openers - Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow came out all guns blazing. Prabhsimran was the one who took the attack to KKR at first as he took their bowlers to the cleaners. The right-handed batsman reached his fifty in just 18 balls in the fifth over.
In the sixth over, Bairstow joined the party as well. After scoring 12 runs from 10 balls till the fifth over, he went berserk in the sixth over against left-arm spinner Anukul Roy. The England star hit the spinner for two sixes and three fours in the first five deliveries as PBKS raced away to 93 for no loss with one ball still remaining in the powerplay.
The visitors were looking set to finish the powerplay on top before Prabhsimran Singh was run out on the final ball of the sixth over as he tried to take a non-existent single. Bairstow failed to make a good connection with the ball and inside-edged the shot towards Sunil Narine at short fine leg.
It was Prabhsimran Singh's call and he called for a single. Bairstow duly obliged but Prabhsimran failed to get back inside the crease in time. Before the PBKS opener could get back inside the crease safely, Sunil Narine picked up the ball and hit the bullseye at the striker's end. Prabhsimran Singh departed after scoring 54 runs off just 20 balls with the helo of four fours and five sixes.
Earlier in the game, half-centuries from Sunil Narine and Phil Salt propelled KKR to a massive total of 261/6 after they were asked to bat first. Narine scored 71 off 32 balls while Salt scored 75 off 37.
