KKR vs SRH: 'May the best team win, and by best, I mean KKR' - Shreyas Iyer playfully warns Pat Cummins ahead of IPL final

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer sent a playful and encouraging message to SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins ahead of the highly anticipated IPL 2024 Final.

The summit clash is set to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where KKR and SRH will battle it out for the prestigious title on Sunday, May 26. Iyer hailed Cummins for his stellar leadership of the Orange Army throughout the IPL 2024. SRH won 8 games out of 14 league games, with one match washed out due to rain. 

However, he also reminded the SRH skipper of the challenges his team has faced against KKR this season. The Indian star amusingly pointed out that while Cummins will be up against a familiar opponent, this time it will be on a different stage with the purple and gold of KKR standing in his way.

Furthermore, Iyer hopes that it will be a thrilling final match between Kolkata and Hyderabad, cheekily saying that the two-time IPL champions will emerge as title winners in Chennai. Both teams have shown exceptional performance throughout the season, and now they are aiming to give their best final shot at the Chepauk Stadium in the title clash.

In a video shared by IPL on X, Shreyas Iyer said in a friendly note to Pat Cummins: “Dear Pat, today I thought it may be fun to drop you a little note. First off, let me just say you have done an amazing job, leading the Orange Army this season. This season, we have given you a tough time. Let me remind you, you face the same opponent at a different venue. But today, you will be against colours that will be familiar to you, Purple and Gold. Here's to a thrilling final. May the best team win. And by best, I mean ours. Ami KKR, you opponent, Shreyas Iyer.”

KKR will have the upper hand against SRH

Meanwhile, KKR has already had a great record against the SRH in the IPL. The Kolkata-based franchise has won 18 games from their 27 meetings, with the Hyderabad team emerging victorious on just nine occasions so far in the IPL.

Speaking about this season, the KKR crushed SRH in their opening game by four wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Shreyas Iyer-led KKR team also defeated the Orange Army by eight wickets in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and they would like to achieve the same result in the final at the Chepauk Stadium.

Notably, Iyer enjoyed a great time with the bat in the IPL 2024, scoring 345 runs at a strike rate of 146.18, his highest strike rate in a single season since his debut in 2015. 

Ahead of the final game, Iyer paid tribute to KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir by saying: “Gautam bhai has immense knowledge about how the game is played. He has won two titles with KKR and his strategies have been spot on. He adds a lot of cream to the team and hopefully we keep continuing with the same momentum.”
