KL Rahul Would Be My Suggestion For Test Captain - Former Indian Cricketer
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Jagdale reckons that the captaincy in Tests should be handed over to someone who can be at the helm for a long period of time and the name that comes to his mind is Karnataka batter, KL Rahul.
Rahul was brought back into the Test fold during India’s tour of England and he managed to impress the selectors. Since then, he has been a regular alongside Rohit Sharma and will continue to be if he can keep up his good form.
“I feel that the next India Test captain should be the one who can take the responsibility for a longer period of time. So accordingly, I would suggest KL Rahul’s name as the next test captain,” Jagdale was quoted as saying to PTI.
Rohit Sharma’s injury concerns tilt scales in KL Rahul’s favour
Being the designated vice-captain of India, Rohit Sharma is quite the obvious choice to take up captaincy in the longest format of the game as well. However, his fitness concerns are a problem that the management may not want to deal with, especially when it comes to leading a team.
Rohit was recently ruled out of the South African tour after he injured his hamstring. He has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In his stead, Rahul was handed the captaincy reins for the 3-match ODI series against South Africa.
This will also be the first time that former captain, Virat Kohli, will be playing under a new captain who isn’t MS Dhoni. Prior to this, Kohli has opted out of tours to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka where Rohit has taken over but the 33-year-old has never played under a different captain.
