India National Cricket Team assistant coach Abhishek Nayar provided an update about the Indian XI for the second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. He said that they are yet to determine the team and Kuldeep Yadav's presence will depend on the conditions.
India National Cricket Team will be taking on Bangladesh in the second Test in less than 24 hours. The last game of the series will take place at Green Park in Kanpur from Friday (27th September). The hosts are 1-0 ahead in the series after their thumping 280-run win in the first game.
The surface at Green Park, Kanpur, will be completely different from what it was at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It is expected to be slow and is likely to assist spinners. Therefore, few changes are expected, and we might see Kuldeep Yadav making a cut into the Indian XI.
Kuldeep Yadav has been one of the best spinners for India in all three formats of the game. However, he has always been under the shadows of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who have got first preference in the longest format of the game.
There have been reports that claimed that one of Axar Patel or Kuldeep Yadav might get a nod into the XI in place of the third seamer. The wrist-spinner last played for India in Tests in the five-match series against England and did a great job for the team, helping the team win the series by a margin of 4-1.
If given the opportunity, Kuldeep Yadav will be playing at his home ground. He has improved a lot in his batting as well. And it's fair to say that there will be no better than him to be playing at the Kanpur surface.
Abhishek Nayar reveals whether Kuldeep Yadav will play second Test or not
Abhishek Nayar, ahead of the second Test against Bangladesh, was asked about playing XI of the team. He said that they have no idea about which surface will they play on. He said that they would be taking calls on the morning of the game. He explained:
"Don't know what surface we are going to be playing on yet. Both the pitches were really good, Kanpur is always known to have good pitches. I am not sure about the bounce yet, but I think the conditions and the forecast will be sort of interesting as to how when we turn up in the morning and how the conditions are."
Abhishek Nayar further stated that their playing XI selection will depend on the conditions, and they are expecting to be playing on a sunny day. He added:
"I think a lot will depend on that because in Test cricket, conditions matter a lot and how the pitch plays. It is for us to decide and have a thought process over the conditions. But we are hoping to come on a sunny day and not an overcast Kanpur."
It remains to be seen what combination India will opt for in a second game. They would be keen to complete the whitewash and gain important World Test Championship points.
