India leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been cleared by the Kanpur city magistrate, Himanshu Gupta, after an inquiry was launched against him for reportedly taking the Covid-19 vaccine at a ‘guest house’, instead of the hospital where he had booked a slot.
On May 15, Kuldeep Yadav uploaded a photo on social media of himself getting vaccinated, and also urged his fans to take their doses whenever available for the fight against the deadly virus.
However, this landed the chinaman in trouble as, according to a report in PTI, he took the jab at the Kanpur Nagar Nigam guest house, which is considered an unregistered location, despite having an appointment at the Jageshwar Hospital in Govind Nagar. Following this, a probe was ordered against the spinner.
Himanshu Gupta said on Wednesday that the controversial photo was nothing but a social media gimmick, which Kuldeep Yadav had posted on the urging of his friends, following the norm these days of people and celebrities uploading their photos of taking the vaccine.
Kuldeep Yadav likely to feature on the tour of Sri Lanka
Kuldeep Yadav, who had played just one Test in more than two years after taking a five-for in the 2019 Sydney Test, was dropped from the Test squad for the tour of the UK, which comprises the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and a 5-Test series versus England.
He recently featured in the first 2 of the 3 ODIs against England at home but had to be dropped from the last game after returning with figures of 0/68 and 0/84. He last played a T20I in January 2020 and didn’t feature in a single game for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the now-suspended IPL 2021 so far.
