India head coach Rahul Dravid has revealed what Kuldeep Yadav needs to do to bat ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The left-arm spinner impressed not only with the ball but the bat as well in the recently-concluded five-match series against England.

Kuldeep Yadav finished the series with 19 wickets from 4 games after failing to get a chance in the playing eleven for the first Test in Hyderabad. He was also adjudged the Player of the Match in the fifth Test after taking five wickets in the first innings and two in the second. He also played a 30-run knock with the bat in the first innings that helped India recover from 428 for 8 and post 477.

Overall, Kuldeep Yadav had a memorable outing with the bat in the series. After scoring 8*, 0, and 4 in his first three innings, he came up with knocks of 27, 28, and 30. He shared crucial match-defining partnerships on several occasions in the series.

Rahul Dravid reveals the condition of Kuldeep Yadav:

With Kuldeep Yadav impressing with the bat, India captain Rohit Sharma was asked about his batting after the fifth Test in Dharamsala. In reply, the veteran opener revealed he told his younger teammate to work on his batting.

“We know Kuldeep’s got something about him when he bowls. In the last couple of years, he’s just come along a long way after he was injured and the way he’s come back in white-ball cricket and now you got to see in red ball as well what he can do. He’s understood what he needs to do. He’s gone back, worked with his coaches, worked here as well. I see him bowling every time, putting one stump there and just getting that accuracy right,” Rohit told Jio Cinema.

And then, obviously, I’ve been very critical about his batting. I’ve been the one who’s been pushing him to bat well. Go and work out whatever he can because it definitely adds up when you bat at No. 8 or 9. We know how crucial it is when you add those runs at the back end. And he’s got the ability to bat and play some shots as well,” he added.

After praising Kuldeep, Rohit was asked by the presenter whether the spinner asked for a promotion in the batting order after impressing against England. Rohit laughed off the question and reminded the presenter that Ashwin and Jadeja have nine Test centuries between themselves.

“I mean, you got to talk to Ashwin and Jadeja for that,” Rohit said.

Rahul Dravid, who was a part of the discussion, quickly interrupted and revealed the condition for Kuldeep for a promotion in the batting order. The former India captain said: “He needs to get three Test hundreds before he can ask for a promotion,” and burst into laughter.

Both Rohit and Kuldeep will be seen in action later this month when IPL 2024 gets underway. While Rohit is set to play for Mumbai Indians, Kuldeep will ply his trade for Delhi Capitals.
