This is the fifth edition of the Lanka Premier League. B-Love Kandy is the tournament's defending champion, having won the title in 2023. They won the title having beaten Dambulla Aura in the final last year.

The Dambulla franchise has now changed its name to Dambulla Sixers after its owner Tamim Rahman was arrested for match-fixing charges. The franchise was owned then by Sequoia Consultants through DeSilva Holdings, who got ownership of the Dambulla franchise and renamed it Dambulla Sixers.

Matches at LPL 2024 will feature two "power-blast overs", which will be the 16th and 17th overs of each completed inning, where a maximum of four fielders will be allowed outside the 30-yard circle. The LPL has tried a similar innovation like the Impact Sub in the IPL.

The league is played in the round-robin format with each team facing the other four teams in the tournament twice The top four teams in the points table will qualify for playoffs and clash in Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2, Eliminator, and the final.

Teams are allowed to have a squad of 20-24 players including a mandatory of six overseas players and 14-19 domestic players. There are five teams in LPL 2024, namely the B-Love Kandy, Dambulla Sixers, Jaffna Kings, Galle Marvels, and Colombo Strikers.
