As Ravichandran Ashwin gears up to play his 100th Test, former spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has accused the India spin spearhead of ignoring him. The Tamil Nadu ace will become the 14th Indian cricketer to play 100 Tests when he takes the field for the fifth Test against England, scheduled to be played from Thursday (March 7) in Dharamsala.
Among active Indian cricketers, he will become the fourth cricketer to achieve the feat after Ishan Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara.
Ahead of the milestone game, Sivaramakrishnan wanted to congratulate Ravichandran Ashwin personally. The former cricketer-turned-commentator took to X (formerly Twitter) to state that he called the spinner but the latter just cut off his call. Sivaramakrishnan also sent Ravichandran Ashwin a message but is yet to get a response.
???Tried calling him a few times to wish him for his 100th Test. Just cut off my call. Sent him a message, no reply. That???s the respect we former cricketers get,??? wrote Sivaramakrishnan while replying to a post praising the India star.
Writing further, he took a dig at the spinner and also clarified his old statements about him as he wrote: ???Respect comes only from cultured people. Btw, I was earlier tweeting about a minor correction in his action and not criticizing him. If only people understood.???

When Laxman Sivaramakrishnan criticized Ravichandran Ashwin:
Last year, Sivaramakrishnan had publicly criticized Ravichandran Ashwin. Taking to X, he had called the off-spinner a ???liability fielder??? and ???most unfit cricketer???. The former cricketer had also said that ???any fool will get wickets on tempered pitches in India??? as he criticized Ashwin.
Sivaramakrishnan???s outburst came just before the start of the ODI World Cup last year when he failed to get a commentary contract for the marquee event in India.
???Any fool will get wickets on tampered pitches in India. Go straight from the airport to the ground and tell the ground staff what areas to tamper, I have seen with my own eyes several times,??? he wrote when a fan called Ashwin better than him.

Meanwhile, Ashwin recently became the second Indian bowler to take 500 Test wickets after the legendary Anil Kumble. He achieved the feat during the third Test against England in Rajkot. Ashwin became the fastest Indian to 500 wickets in Tests.
