Veteran Bowling all-rounder Lea Tahuhu returned to New Zealand’s central contract list for the 2023-24 season, following her performance over the past 12 months. Lea Tahuhu was included in the 17-member list of centrally contracted players by New Zealand Cricket on Wednesday, June 21.

Lea Tahuhu was excluded from the New Zealand Cricket contact list for women’s players last season. However, the 32-year-old player was part of the national team over the past year and impressed new coach Ben Sawyer with her performances with the ball, especially in the shorter format.

Tahuhu picked up 19 wickets in 14 T20Is, including eight scalps in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023. She was instrumental in New Zealand’s bronze medal campaign at the Commonwealth Games. She posted career-best figures of 4-6 against Bangladesh at Hagley Oval last December.

Northern Districts wicketkeeper-batter Bernadine Bezuidenhout and young batter Kate Anderson have returned to the central contract list after missing out last season. Bezuidenhout returned to the list following a two-year absence from the sport. She recovered from RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport).

Anderson has been rewarded for her brilliant performance with the bat in both formats during the 2022–23 domestic summer. She topped the T20s and scored a record-breaking 536 runs. She scored 343 runs in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, including an unbeaten 141 against the Central Hinds.

We’re Delighted To Be Able To Reward Kate Anderson – Ben Sawyer

New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer stated that the players were included in the contract players list following their strong performances over the past year.

“This is a really exciting time for all our contracted players, especially for those returning to the list and receiving a contract for the first time. We’re delighted to be able to reward Kate Anderson with her first contract after her really impressive performances in domestic cricket last summer,” Sawyer said.

“Lea has been an important figure in our group over the last 12 months and has taken her game to a new level while also bringing strong leadership and helping with the development of our less experienced White Ferns.

“Bernie has been on a real journey over the last two years and her inclusion is testament to her work ethic and commitment to her game. She showed at the World Cup what she can offer with both the bat and the gloves, so we’re looking forward to building on that skillset and mindset over the coming season.”
