Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das has publicly criticized Pakistan veteran Mohammad Rizwan for refusing to take part in the traditional post-match handshake ceremony. The Bangladeshi star stated that the visiting squad displayed exemplary sportsmanship, with Rizwan being the exception.
Bangladesh, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, completed a 2-0 home whitewash over Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, in the Test series in May 2026. The matches, played between May 8 and May 20, were part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle and strengthened Bangladesh's dominance in the rivalry.
No Matter How Big a Player He Is - Litton Das on Mohammad Rizwan's Handshake Snub
In a recent interview with The Prothom Alo, Litton Das expressed his disappointment over Mohammad Rizwan's post-match conduct. The Bangladesh wicketkeeper said that on-field rivalries should end when the match is over and added that refusing to shake hands goes against the spirit of the game.
“Whatever happens on the field, once the game is over, everyone should shake hands. After the first Test defeat, Rizwan didn't come to shake hands with us. No matter how big a player he is, that shouldn't have happened," Litton said.
"He did the same thing in the second Test as well. He may have an issue with me, but the entire Bangladesh team did nothing to him,” he added.
It Was Fully Unprofessional From Him - Litton Das Slams Mohammad Rizwan
Litton Das further criticized Mohammad Rizwan's behavior and said the incident was limited to the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter. He added that the rest of the Pakistan team showed proper sportsmanship and took part in the post-match handshakes.
“The whole Pakistan team handshaked with us. Only he (Rizwan) didn't. It was fully unprofessional from him.”
Bangladesh dominated the first Test in Dhaka, where fast bowler Nahid Rana took a five-wicket haul to help the hosts register their first-ever Test win over Pakistan at home. Bangladesh scored 413 and 240/9 declared before bowling Pakistan out for just 163 in the final innings.
In the second Test in Sylhet, Bangladesh posted 278 and 390. Chasing 437, Rizwan (94) and Salman Ali Agha added 134 runs for a crucial partnership. However, Taijul Islam claimed six wickets as Pakistan were bowled out for 358, sealing a 2-0 series win for Bangladesh.
Focus on Your Batting Here - Litton Das and Mohammad Rizwan's Heated Exchange
According to stump-mic recordings, the tension between Litton Das and Mohammad Rizwan began during a heated exchange on Day Four of the second Test. The incident occurred after Rizwan repeatedly raised concerns about movement near the sightscreen.
Litton: "What are you doing?"
Rizwan: "Look, look, he's standing there."
Litton: "Why are you looking over there? Focus on your batting here."
Rizwan: "Is that your job, mine, or the umpire's?"
The exchange prompted umpires Richard Kettleborough and Allahudien Palekar to step in and calm the situation. The tension continued later in the match as some Bangladesh fielders appeared to target Rizwan with verbal remarks while he was dealing with cramps.
