Bangladesh National Cricket Team captain Litton Das has been struck by a back strain during training at the ICC Academy Ground, putting his participation in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 Super Four matches in doubt. Litton Das sustained the injury during batting drills on September 22.
While attempting a square cut in the nets, Litton felt a sudden twinge on the left side of his waist and had to stop practice immediately. The Bangladesh captain was assessed on the spot by team physio Bayzidul Islam, with chief physician Debashis Chowdhury also attending.

The treatment was carried out right on the field, but Litton Das did not continue batting after the incident. The timing of Litton’s injury is concerning for Bangladesh, as their schedule in the Super Four stage is extremely tight. They will face India on September 24 and then Pakistan the next day.

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz on Tuesday (September 23): “We will have a look at him (Litton) today because from outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call.”
However, Litton Das did not seem to be in serious pain after the back strain, but his potential absence would be a big setback for the Tigers. They rely heavily on him both as a captain and a key batter, so missing him could affect their chances in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four matches.
Who will lead Bangladesh?
Adding to the uncertainty, the BCB has not named a vice-captain for the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. It is still unclear who would take over leadership duties if Litton Das is unable to play.
The wicketkeeper-batter has so far amassed 119 runs in four matches at an average of 29.75 and a strike rate of 129.34 in the ongoing continental tournament in the UAE.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh won their first Super Four match by four wickets against Sri Lanka, and now they are just one win away from securing a spot in the Asia Cup 2025 final, although net run rate will play a role in the qualification scenario.
Bangladesh spinner Mahedi Hasan warns India ahead of Super Four clash
As the Tigers are gearing up for a crucial Super Four match against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, the star spinner Sheikh Mahedi Hasan has sent a warning to Suryakumar Yadav and his team. He made it clear the Tigers are not intimidated by India or the hype surrounding the Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2025.
He stressed that Bangladesh are focusing on their own preparation, treating the game like any other, and working hard in training to sharpen both skills and strategy for the big game.
Mahedi said at the nets, “Not after winning a match. From the start, we stay normal. The way we are, the way our body language is—we aren't overthinking. We're just going out there to play a cricket match. Whether the opponent is India or Australia, that's not our concern.”
