Lucknow Will Host A Test Game After 28 Long Years During New Zealand Tour Of India

Lucknow is all set to host a Test match after 28 years during the New Zealand tour of India. Notably, one match of the two-match Test series will be played at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow.

Meanwhile, team New Zealand are all set to travel to India in November, after the completion of the T20 World Cup. Notably, the series will contain three T20 International games and two Test games. During the last face-off between The Blackcaps and Indian team,  New Zealand remained victorious as they defeated Virat Kohli and co. in the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Meanwhile, the only Test hosted by Lucknow came back in KDS Babu Stadium in 1994 in the match against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the new stadium built in the city, which is named after the former Indian Prime Minister was opened in 2016 for first-class cricket.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official in a chat with Times of India has told that the Lucknow stadium has got good facilities and it will be a good deal for any IPL franchise. It was also told that the board is planning to give the city exposure to international games ahead of new franchises are finalized for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The stadium has good facilities and a capacity of nearly 70, 000. That’s a good deal for any IPL franchise. Like Ahmedabad, it’s important to give Lucknow exposure to marquee international matches before the IPL teams are finalized. Lucknow was also shortlisted as a venue for the T20 World Cup had it happened in India,” the BCCI official told TOI.

Notably, two new franchises are all set to join Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and the Lucknow franchise is one of the top candidates.
