Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has expressed his concerns over Glenn Maxwell being taken to hospital by an ambulance. The allrounder was hospitalized last week after passing out on a night out before being taken to the hospital.
He was in Adelaide and attended a golf promo before watching former fast bowler Brett Lee’s band ‘Six and Out’. The event was attended by other Australian players as well as West Indies players. Glenn Maxwell passed out during the event and after the players couldn’t rouse him, he was taken to the hospital by an ambulance.
As per media reports, he did not stay at the hospital overnight but the incident has already raised a number of eyebrows. Michael Clarke has also expressed his concerns, saying that to even think that his former teammate had to be put in an ambulance is scary.
“To have to be put into an ambulance, that makes me nervous. With these sort of things, with off-field stuff. I like to go, ‘Benefit of the doubt and innocent until proven guilty’. One thing I know, Cricket Australia will get to the bottom of it. These days there’s cameras, there’s people. So the truth will be told,” Michael Clarke was quoted as saying by news.com.au.
“The other thing we need to do is making sure he’s OK. He didn’t end up spending the night there (in hospital). I can’t think of a time where I’ve had to call an ambulance or an ambulance had to be called for me, no matter how drunk I was. So I’m worried is there more to this and I just hope he’s OK first and foremost,” he added.
Cricket Australia statement on Glenn Maxwell:
As per several reports, Glenn Maxwell might have passed out due to dehydration. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has given an update on the allrounder. In an official statement, they stated that Maxwell was withdrawn from the ODI squad for the series against West Indies due to workload management and not because of the incident.
“Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information. It is not related to him being replaced in the ODI squad, a decision that was made following the BBL and based on his individual management plan. Maxwell is expected to return for the T20 series. No further comment will be made at this time,” the official CA statement said.
In recent months, the Australia star has been involved in several unusual and freaky incidents. During the World Cup in India last year, he suffered a concussion after falling off a golf cart. In November 2022, he ended up with a broken leg at his friend’s birthday party.
