Mohammed Shami once again struck in the very first over of the innings, this time getting the better of the Sunrisers opener Abhishek Sharma, while Manimaran Siddharth dove swiftly to his left to grab one out of thin air.
Sunrisers Hyderabad started IPL 2026 with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head being dismissed early in their opening game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru; however, Ishan Kishan managed to pull them out of that situation. SRH have started their campaign with one win after 2 games.
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave SRH the start they needed in their second game, showing a glimpse of what the two destructive players did back in 2024. However, LSG pacers had something to prove at the start of the innings, and Mohammed Shami stepped up for his new franchise.
Abhishek Sharma dismissed after an absolute beauty from an LSG fielder
Mohammed Shami bowled one of the finest overs to Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma as he looked composed against the two openers, who are known to set the tone for the team that has scored five of the six highest totals in the history of the IPL.
As Shami acted very cleverly on the final delivery of his over, he took the pace off the ball and let Abhishek Sharma throw his bat at a slower ball. Abhishek edged it, and with the slip out of play, the short third man fielder, Manimaran Siddharth, did a remarkable amount of work as he dived to his left, grabbing a swift low catch.
Mohammed Shami once again turned successful against the Indian left-handed batter.

Mohammed Shami deceives Travis Head with another pace-off delivery
Mohammed Shami came off to this IPL following a big, successful domestic season, where the Bengal pacer featured across all three formats of the game. Shami had a successful run in domestic cricket and has continued it in the IPL.
He returned with his second over and deceived the fellow SRH opener, Travis Head. Shami bowled another slower delivery, and that deceived Travis Head as he went early with the drive. The catch was completed successfully by Aiden Markram.
He leaped forward and stunningly took the catch, as Head was dismissed for a score of 7 in just the third over of the game. Shami was on a hat trick; however, Liam Livingstone, the batter who faced that delivery, wasn't threatened by the next ball.
LSG pacers run a rampage against the SRH top-order
After Mohammed Shami picked two wickets early on in the powerplay, the two Sunrisers Hyderabad openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, were sent back early. This same top order has largely helped the Sunrisers to their massive totals.
Lucknow Super Giants pacers Prince Yadav and Mohammed Shami have been regularly taking wickets. They picked up wickets in the two games at the start of the innings. Prince bowled one over in the powerplay and dismissed the SRH captain with ease.
Ishan Kishan was cleaned up, which resulted in the SRH trio of Head, Abhishek and Kishan being dismissed with contributions of not more than 8 runs to the team scoreboard.
