Martin Guptill Overtakes Rohit Sharma To Become Leading Run Scorer In Men's T20 Internationals (T20Is)

The 35-year-old New Zealand National Cricket Team opening batsman Martin Guptill has surpassed the India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma to become the leading run-scorer in Men’s T20 International (T20I) cricket.

The veteran Blackcaps opener overtook the Men In Blue captain during the first T20I game of the series against the Scotland National Cricket Team, which is being played at the Grange Cricket Club, Edinburgh on Wednesday, July 27.

Before the first T20I between New Zealand National Cricket Team and Scotland National Cricket Team, star India opener Rohit Sharma was the leading run-getter in the Men’s T20Is.

Rohit Sharma currently has 3379 runs in T20Is in 128 games. He has scored his runs at an average of 32.18 and a strike rate of 139.62, including 4 centuries and 26 half-centuries. Also, he has smashed 303 fours and 157 sixes in his T20I career.

Guptill was heading into the first T20I against Scotland with 3359 T20I runs under his belt. He played a decent knock of 40 runs off 31 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes, in the match, while batting with a strike rate of 129.03, to overtake India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit.

Also, Kiwi batter Finn Allen smashed a sensational ton and good contributions by Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham helped New Zealand post 225/5 on the board.

Talking about Martin Guptill, who made his T20I debut in 2009 against Australia in Sydney, he now has 3399 T20I runs in his bag in 116 games. He has scored his runs at an average of 32.37 and a strike rate of 136.39, including 2 tons and 20 fifties. Also, he has smashed 297 fours and 169 sixes in T20Is.

Notably, Martin Guptill’s tally of 169 sixes in Men’s T20I cricket is the highest in the history of the format. Also, his 297 fours tally is the 4th best in this format of the game.
