Indian batter Mayank Agarwal was hospitalised in Agartala after consuming allegedly contaminated water during a flight. The incident occurred while the team was en route from Agartala, Tripura, to Surat, Gujarat.
Agarwal who led Karnataka to a win over Tripura in the Ranji match on Monday fell ill after drinking the contaminated water inside the flight. It is further said that he complained of a burning sensation in his mouth after consuming the water that was served to him.
Mayank was admitted to the ILS Hospital, Agartala where he is currently undergoing treatment. Reports further said that he is struggling to speak and was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) after his initial treatment.

Further reports say that the cabin crew placed an acid bottle in the water storage area and Mayank consumed the acid mistaking it for water. He quickly spit everything out of his mouth once he understood the taste. The doctors are treating him at the earliest and there is less chance that any amount of acid has reached his stomach. Meanwhile, the flight crew has confiscated the water bottle and initiated an investigation.
Karnataka are set to play the railways in their next Ranji Trophy match at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat from February 2. Karnataka team manager Ramesh was also reported to have deboarded from the plane that was flying to Surat. Mayank???s medication is being put to utmost importance by all concerned and related to Karnataka Cricket.
Mayank Agarwal has been in blazing form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season scoring 460 runs in four matches at an average of 44.28 with two centuries to his name. He ended as the top run-getter in the 2022-23 season of the Rannji Tropjy with 990 runs in nine matches, with three centuries and six half-centuries at an average of 82.50.
Despite his recent run of form, Mayank was not named among the replacements for the second Test against England in Vizag starting from February 2. India are already without Virat Kohli and will miss KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja in the second Test due to injury concerns. Mayank played his last Test for India in 2022. His last Test was against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru in March 2022. Overall, he has played 21 Test matches and has scored 1488 runs at an average of 41.33 with four hundreds and six fifties.
Sarfaraz along with Washington Sundar and Saurabh Kumar were added to the Indian squad after KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out as injury concerns. Sarfaraz came in as a replacement for Rahul while Sundar was named a potential replacement for Ravindra Jadeja.
He is currently playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. The franchise retained him despite a lean year with the bat in IPL 2023. He scored just 270 runs last season at an average of 27.00 in 10 games last season. He has a career average of 22.98 in more than 120 games in the IPL. He previously led The Punjab Kings franchise in IPL 2022.
