Mayank Agarwal Set For Ranji Trophy Comeback Days After Mid-Flight Medical Emergency

Indian batsman and Karnataka Ranji team skipper Mayank Agarwal has received a clearance certificate to return to the cricket field, as per Cricinfo. Agarwal was admitted to the hospital after he complained of uneasiness and a burning sensation in his throat while he was returning to Delhi from Agartala. Agarwal had complained of uneasiness and had started to vomit due to which he was deboarded from the flight.
While the whole Karnataka team left for Delhi, Mayank Agarwal was admitted to a local hospital in Agartala and was also kept in ICU for one day. Several accounts claim that when the flight attendant left an acid bottle in the water storage area, Mayank swallowed the acid, thinking it was water. He hurriedly spat everything out of his mouth as soon as he noticed how everything tasted. In the interval, the flight crew confiscated the water bottle and began an inquiry.
Mayank Agarwal also shared a post on his official social media handles after his condition became better. In the caption, Agarwal had thanked his well-wishers and had stated that he would look to make a return to the side.

However, Mayank Agarwal was discharged from the hospital after being admitted for two days. Agarwal returned to Bengaluru and it was cleared that he had no major issues. Soon, after Agarwal received his fitness certificate he was named back in Karnataka’s squad for the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 and will be playing in the next match against Tamil Nadu in Chennai. Agarwal has been suggested to take a two-day rest before returning to the field.
Apart from Mayank Agarwal’s return to Karnataka, left-handed batsman Devdutt Padikkal has also made a return to the side. Padikkal missed the initial round of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24, as he was bound to play for the India A against England Lions. Karnataka won their recent Ranji Trophy match against Railways by 1 wicket while they were chasing down 226 runs.
In the absence of Mayank Agarwal, Karnataka was led by Nikin Jose against Goa. Agarwal has had a blast season in the current edition of the Ranji Trophy and has scored 310 runs from seven innings at an average of 44.28. Agarwal also finished as the Ranji Trophy 2022–23’s top run scorer, smashing 990 runs in nine games for a three-ton total at an average of 82.50.

The initial days for Mayank Agarwal in the Indian cricket team were brilliant for the right-handed batsman. Agarwal played an innings of 76 runs in the first innings of the match, which was followed by a 42-run knock in the second innings, against a lethal Australian pace attack. Agarwal also smashed a double century against South Africa in Visakhapatnam just one year after his Test debut for India.
However, Mayank Agarwal played his last Test match for India in the year 2022 and since then has been out of the Indian side. There was a subtle dip in the form of Agarwal, and due to the rising competition in the team, he was removed from the side.
