Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali praised young Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav following his impressive debut performance against Bangladesh. Basit Ali said that Mayank Yadav also should be part of the Indian squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia later this year.
Mayank Yadav made his international debut in the first T20I of the series against Bangladesh. The right-arm fast bowler started his career with a maiden over and ended his opening spell with 2-1-3-1. Mayank ended the match with one wicket for just 21 runs in four overs during the series opener.
It Was A Dream Debut For Mayank Yadav - Basit Ali
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali said that Mayank Yadav should stay fit for the upcoming tour of Australia. Basit highlighted that Yadav could have created even more impact if he had opened the bowling instead of Hardik Pandya.
"It was a dream debut for Mayank Yadav. He started off with a maiden and even clocked 149.9 kmph. He has come from an injury, which is why his speeds have not been 157 or 158," Basit said.
"Just imagine if he had been given the new ball instead of Hardik Pandya. He instilled fear. If you guys saw the match, batters did not play him on the front foot. I hope that he remains fit and goes to Australia," he added.
Mayank Yadav Hit The 140 Kmph Mark 17 Times In First T20I
The 22-year-old fast bowler consistently bowled in the 150 kmph range while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2024. He could play only four matches in the T20 tournament before suffering an injury. The Delhi cricketer took seven wickets and also bowled at 156.7 kph in the IPL 2024.
The pacer bowled at more than 140 kmph against Bangladesh despite concerns about his fitness due to a side strain. He clocked 145.7 kmph on his second ball and 148.7 kmph on his next over's first ball. Yadav maintained a disciplined line and length and hit the 140 kmph mark in 17 out of the 24 balls.
India Have Changed Cricket - Basit Ali
Basit Ali said that India showcased dominance despite resting key players from the series. He stated that the playing XI looked like an IPL team without stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer.
"India have changed cricket (with their dominance). Bangladesh is just an appetizer (for them). Yeh IPL eleven hai, India ki team nahi hai," said Basit.
"There was no (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, no (Shubman) Gill, no Axar Patel, no Rishabh Pant, no (Shreyas) Iyer; (Ravi) Bishnoi did not play. And still they hammered them in just 11-something overs, finishing with a six from (Hardik) Pandya," he added.
The second T20I match between India and Bangladesh will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, October 9. Team India wants to clinch the series, while the visiting team hopes to keep the series alive with the victory.
