Mumbai cricket team selector Anand Yalvgi filed a complaint to Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for being threatened by an Apex Council member to select a player.

Yalvgi, who played First-Class cricket representing the teams like Mumbai, Karnataka and Maharashtra, wrote a complaint to MCA chief Vijay Patil.

“This is to bring to your notice, today morning (7th October, 2021), one of the Apex Council Member, Mr Kiran Powar called me and was insisting and threatening me to select a player in the senior team,” Anand Yalvgi wrote in his complaint, as reported by Cricbuzz.

“His tone and language was atrocious and unparliamentary. He threatened all the selection committee members of dire consequences if the player is not selected. It was shocking and disgraceful to see a former player use such language and pressurise a senior selector of Mumbai,” the letter further added.

Anand Yalvgi urges MCA president to take strict action against Kiran Powar

Yalvgi has played 29 First-Class matches, and 14 List A matches in his five-year professional career that spanned between 1996-2002. The former Mumbai cricketer said that he has worked diligently throughout his career and asked for the strictest action against such kind of incident.

“I have a clean track record and (am someone) who does my job diligently, and am a professional with 25 years of corporate experience. Such calls are disturbing and demotivating. If such things continue, I can only say – ‘God help Mumbai Cricket’.

“I sincerely hope, such things shouldn’t be tolerated and strictest action should be taken to avoid any further embarrassment. I have spoken to all my colleagues and they are of the same opinion too. Looking forward to you support and intervention,” Yalvgi signed off in his letter.

Powar did not respond to the allegations as he refused to talk on the matter.  “Sorry, I can’t talk right now,” Powar messaged PTI after being contacted by the news agency.

Mumbai cricket team chief selector Salil Ankola extended his support to Yalvgi and said it was sad to hear about it.
