Meg Lanning Returns To Lead The Australia Against Pakistan After Indefinite Break

Australia Women’s captain Meg Lanning will return to international cricket after a five-month ‘indefinite break’ and lead Australia in the three-match ODI series against Pakistan Women in January. She has been named in Australia’s 13-man squad and Alyssa Healy, who led the Aussies in Lanning’s absence, will miss the series with a calf injury.
After leading the team to gold at the inaugural Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, the 30-year-old took an indefinite break from the game to focus on her mental health. Lanning, who led Australia to regain the ODI World Cup in 2022, was expected to feature in England’s The Hundred competition but pulled out before missing the Women’s Big Bash League and the five-match T20I series against India.

She Has Done It For Long Time – National Selector Shawn Flegler
It was unclear whether she would return, but national selector Shawn Flegler stated Friday that Lanning was “all in” for the upcoming home match against Pakistan.
“We had always hoped she would come back and play, and a great story really,” he added. “Obviously, she’s taken this time to work out what’s really important for her, things she needs to do to manage herself.”
“You know, it’s a tough gig being the Australian captain and she has done it for a long time, so just really pleased she’s refreshed, happy and knows what she wants to do.”
