On January 10, 2023, MI Cape Town To Host Paarl Royals To Open The First Season Of SA20. According to Cricket South Africa’s schedule released on Tuesday, the 33-match competition will end with the final at the Wanderers on February 11.
Six locations throughout South Africa will host the inaugural season of the country’s elite T20 competition, which has undergone a name change. Six of the current IPL franchises own each team in the SA20 competition.
Along with the ownership, the competition’s structure heavily borrows from the IPL, with each team facing each of its five opponents twice throughout the league stages—once at home and once away. SuperSport and Viacom18 Sports will both stream the competition live in Sub-Saharan Africa and India, respectively.
Releasing Fixtures For The Opening Season Is A Milestone For Us All At SA20: Graeme Smith
“Releasing fixtures for the opening season is a milestone for us all at SA20,” League Commissioner, Graeme Smith said.
“It’s all getting very real, we certainly can’t wait to watch the world’s best go head-to-head. Fans can look forward to the blockbuster schedule kicking off with the popular local derby between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals on 10 January.
“The Wanderers has hosted many memorable finals throughout the years, we expect a full house in attendance to watch the first-ever SA20 Champions lifting the trophy.
We are thankful to have the buy-in from all six franchises to make this season a success and we look forward to making this inaugural season of the SA20 something special for the fans,” Smith said.
International cricket will take a week-long vacation from the competition, with a three-match ODI series between South Africa and England, before the championship resumes in Durban on February 2.
Due to a conflict with the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, which starts on February 10, Durban will only host two games at Kingsmead in the second half of the calendar; the remaining games will be played at Wanderers and SuperSport Park in Centurion.
