Tilak Varma, on Friday (May 3), did well to hold on to Phil Salt's catch even after a collision in the ongoing game between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Salt got going by smashing Nuwan Thushara for a fine four on the third ball of the first over. Thushara, however, had the last laugh as he sent back the KKR opened on the very following delivery. The dismissal was very dramatic as Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir nearly made a mess of the catch due to a lack of communication between them.

The Sri Lankan pacer bowled a back-of-a-length delivery and Salt wanted to hit it through the on side. However, he ended up edging the ball and it skied over the point region. The ball was falling well behind Varma who was fielding at point.

The left-handed batsman did well to cover the distance quickly and held the ball as well before Naman Dhir came running in and collided with him. Fortunately for Mumbai Indians and Thushara, Varma did well to keep his composure and did not let the ball spill out of his hands.

Talking about the game, KKR are off to a poor start with the bat after Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first. After dismissing Salt in the first over, Thushara struck twice in the third over to send back Angkrish Raghuvanshi and captain Shreyas Iyer.

At the time of writing this report, KKR were reeling at 37 for 3 with Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer batting in the middle.

KKR are eyeing their seventh win of the season tonight while MI are eyeing their fourth. A win for KKR will all but seal their spot in the playoffs. On the other hand, MI will have to win this game to keep their slim playoffs chances alive.
