The coin toss incident during the match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 gained attention on social media. The match referee picked up the coin before the cameraman could focus, making it difficult for viewers to see.

The Mumbai Indians endured their eighth defeat in the ongoing season at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 3. The Kolkata Knight Riders secured a 24-run victory in the 51st match of the IPL 2024. The Mumbai team is almost out of the playoff race following their disappointing performances.

Hardik Pandya tossed the coin as the home captain, and Shreyas Iyer called. The match referee, Pankaj Dharmani, picked up the coin before it could be seen on camera. The match referee declared MI the winner of the toss. Pankaj prevented viewers from witnessing the outcome, sparking debate on social media.

"WTH Referee picked up the coin before the cameraman could show the coin. Why does this happen during Mumbai Indians games only?" posted one user on X.

"I am not calling out anything here about anything. I am just talking about this thing that I observed today that the cameraman couldn't show the coin as he shows in every game," the same user further wrote.

"Whenever the toss happens at Wankhede Stadium with Mumbai Indians, we never see a clear toss in the @IPL @BCCI it's really shame," another user wrote.

A few weeks ago, Faf du Plessis alleged a controversial coin toss during an IPL 2024 match against the Mumbai Indians. Social media erupted over allegations of match referee Javagal Srinath switching sides to favor Mumbai. Du Plessis shared the incident with Pat Cummins a few days later.

Jasprit Bumrah Picks Up Three Wickets For 18 Runs

The Shreyas Iyer-led side posted a total of 169 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Middle-order batter Venkatesh Iyer scored a match-saving half-century, scoring 70 runs off 52 balls with six fours and three sixes. Pacers Nuwan Thushara and Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets each.

The visiting team faced a disastrous start as they lost their wickets for 57 runs in 6.1 overs. Phil Salt (5) was the first to depart, followed by Angkrish Raghuvanshi (13), Shreyas Iyer (6), and Sunil Narine (8). Piyush Chawla outsmarted Rinku Singh, who scored nine runs off eight balls with two boundaries.

Venkatesh Iyer displayed resilience and anchored the Knight Riders' innings. He formed a crucial 83-run partnership with 'Impact Player' Manish Pandey, who scored 42 runs off 31 balls. The team lost quick wickets after Pandey's dismissal. Andre Russell was dismissed after scoring seven runs off two balls.

The Mumbai Indians' chase faltered as they crumbled to 71-6 within 12 overs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 56 runs off 35 balls with six fours and two sixes. However, his dismissal dashed Mumbai's chances. Mitchell Starc (4-33), Sunil Narine (2-22), and Varun Chakravarthy (2-22) delivered dominant bowling displays.
