Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya was seen doing a cold celebration after dismissing the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Marco Jansen in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, May 6.
Hardik Pandya has been underperforming since taking over the MI captaincy from Rohit Sharma in IPL 2024. The all-rounder decided to change that when he entered the field to bowl against SRH. It looked like the all-rounder had finally gained some rhythm and he bowled a terrific spell against the one-time champions.
Hardik Pandya completed his 4-over quota and picked up three big wickets by giving away just 31 runs. He removed Nitish Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Marco Jansen to finish his spell. Throughout his 4 overs, Hardik bowled consistent lines and lengths and troubled the batters.
The biggest highlight of Hardik Pandya's spell was when he rattled the stumps of all-rounder Marco Jansen in the 16th over. On the 5th ball of the over, Hardik Pandya bowled a good length delivery on the middle stump and Marco Jansen tried to pull it for a boundary. The batter failed to make any connection with the ball and it came back in sharply to rattle the stumps.
Marco Jansen took a long walk back to the dugout after scoring 17 runs off 12 balls, with 1 four and 1 six. The dismissal of Marco Jansen left SRH tottering at 124/7.

In the end, Pat Cummins played a quickfire 35-run knock to power his team to a good total of 173/8, which was at least good enough to give a fight to the 5-time champions.
It's all about playing for pride, play for the badge - Hardik Pandya
Speaking ahead of the match, Hardik Pandya said that they will be playing for pride in their last few matches and will look to give joy to the loyal fans of the franchise.
"We're going to bowl first. The wicket looks fresh. Might have something with the new ball, and want to exploit that. Anshul Kambhoj makes his debut. It's all about playing for pride, play for the badge. And for fans who have been with us through thick and thin."
Notably, Mumbai Indians currently occupy the 10th spot on the Indian Premier League 2024 points table with 3 wins and 8 losses to their name. A defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad will end their campaign and they will become the first team to get knocked out of the competition. If Mumbai Indians manage to win, they will keep their slim hopes alive for making it to the top-4, but the chances of that happening are very low.
After the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians will be up against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, May 11, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, May 24, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
