Former Australia National Cricket Team player Michael Hussey spoke on the recent comments of Gautam Gambhir and Ricky Ponting related to the form of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He was on the same page with India National Cricket Team head coach, saying that one cannot write off Rohit and Kohli.

The fever for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is on as the India team have flown to Australia for the five-match Test series. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be heading into the series on the back of the series loss against the New Zealand National Cricket Team and a lot of criticism that they faced.

Heading into the series, the form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is the major talking point as both the stalwarts of the game have come under massive pump. This is because they failed to score big in the home Test season and looked clueless against the spinners as well as pacers.

Gautam Gambhir gives a tight reply to Ricky Ponting

Recently, Ricky Ponting dropped a massive statement on Virat Kohli's form. He mentioned that if it was any other batter who slammed three Test hundreds in five years, he wouldn't have been playing. He also said that the batter not scoring runs would be a concern for the Indian team.

The same question was asked to Gautam Gambhir ahead of the Indian team's departure to the Australia team, and the head coach didn't shy away from defending his players and giving it back to Ricky Ponting. He said that the former Australian player has nothing to do with Indian cricket.

While defending Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir said that both the players are tough men and they will continue achieving the same for the Indian team as they have done in the past. He added:

"What does Ponting have to do with Indian cricket?” Gautam Gambhir said. “They are incredibly tough men. They’ve achieved a lot for Indian cricket and they will continue to achieve a lot in the future as well.”

The silliest thing you can do is to write off champion players - Michael Hussey on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Reacting to comments of Ricky Ponting and Gautam Gambhir, Michael Hussey said that both the former players will get their answers when the first Test between India and Australia begins in Perth on 22nd November.

Hussey admitted that the India National Cricket Team have a lot of match winners and claimed that it would be a silly thing to write off champion players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Speaking on Fox Cricket, he explained:

"We will find out in the first Test match where they are at, mentally and from a skill perspective as well. They will be hurt by this, India. They have got a lot of crowd pullers and quality. We just heard from Gambhir talking about Rohit and Kohli not making runs. The silliest thing you can do is to write off champion players."

So I'm backing them to perform well in Australia - Michael Hussey on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Michael Hussey further backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to come out well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He said that they have often replied to criticism in style and are proud of India and Test players. He, however, still backed Australia to win. He added:

"We have seen it so many times in the past - they come under criticism, but they come out and perform really well. So I'm backing them to perform well in Australia. They are proud Indians and proud Test players. But I still feel Australia will start favourites,”
