Rain Could Play Spoilsport In T20 World Cup 2024 Final
The Men in Blue secured their place in the final by defeating England with a convincing 68-run victory in Guyana during the second semifinal on Thursday, June 27. South Africa, on the other hand, reached the final by defeating Afghanistan with a comprehensive nine-wicket win in the first semifinal in Trinidad.
However, rain could play spoilsport during the final match in Barbados. If the much-awaited match is washed out, both teams will be declared joint winners. At least 10 overs per side must be bowled as per ICC rules. A reserve day (June 30) is also scheduled if the match cannot conclude on the original day.
As per clause 13.7.3.6 of the ICC's playing conditions for the 2024 T20 World Cup final, an additional 190 minutes are allocated for both the final day and its reserve day. However, the preference remains to complete the match on the original scheduled day, as outlined in clause 13.6.2.2.
Clause 13.6.2.2. of ICC's playing conditions for the 2024 World Cup states, "If the reserve day is allocated, every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day with any necessary reduction in overs taking place and only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match be completed on the reserve day."
According to AccuWeather, Barbados expects cloudy, windy weather on Saturday morning with a 44% chance of thunderstorms and a 98% chance of overcast with a temperature around 31°C. The afternoon forecasts remain cloudy, with a 46% chance of rain and 99% cloud cover.
