India will face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8. They booked their place in the big match by beating England by seven runs in the second semifinal in Mumbai. Earlier, the Black Caps defeated South Africa by nine wickets in Kolkata.

Team India can create history in the final match. They have a chance to become the first side ever to defend their T20 World Cup title. The team can also become the first host nation to win the tournament. Amid the excitement, former England captain Michael Vaughan decided to poke fun at the Indian team.

Michael Vaughan's Savage Reply to Dinesh Karthik

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has a special tradition before crucial matches. He always irons his clothes on matchdays.

Before today's big final against New Zealand, Karthik shared a video of himself ironing a shirt on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He captioned the post, "The shirt’s pressed. The vibes are set. Now it’s over to the boys."

Michael Vaughan responded to the tweet with a cheeky comment. He trolled the Indian cricket team by saying they only play well on batting-friendly pitches. Michael Vaughan replied, "You need to use that Iron on the pitch DK .. India like a flat track .. 😜".

Dinesh Karthik’s Lucky Ironing Ritual in Big Finals

Dinesh Karthik’s lucky ironing ritual started a few years ago. He ironed his shirt before the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. India won that clash by seven runs against South Africa to end their 11-year wait for an ICC title.

Karthik continued this exact same tradition for the Champions Trophy 2025 final. India played New Zealand in that match in Dubai and won by four wickets. The tradition has worked for women's cricket, too.

Karthik ironed his shirt before the Indian Women’s team won their first title in 2025 by defeating South Africa. He also tried this ritual in league cricket for the first time before the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 final. His team, RCB Women, won their second WPL title by beating DC Women.

India Face Tough Test Against New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2026 Final

While fans hope Karthik's ritual works again, India face a very tough test. The Men in Blue played the ODI World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, they suffered a massive heartbreak.

India also suffered a big 76-run loss against South Africa at the same stadium during the Super 8 stage of this tournament. It is worth mentioning that it is India's only defeat in the tournament so far.

New Zealand will also be desperate to win today. The Black Caps previously lost the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cup finals. They also finished as runners-up in the 2021 T20 World Cup and lost the Champions Trophy final to India last year.
