The England National Cricket Team player has yet again been involved in a nightclub controversy. Pacer Brydon Carse was arrested in Derbyshire after he had an altercation on Saturday at a nightclub. Soon, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) took action against him. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has shared his first comments on the matter.
Brydon Carse has been dropped from the squad and is not available for selection for the forthcoming 2nd Test match against Pakistan. Young pacer Sonny Baker has replaced the 31-year-old cricketer in the team, as the ECB investigates the matter. This is the second incident in the span of a few months, as previously Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were involved.
"Someone is going to have to get a punishment that sends a shiver down": Michael Vaughan sends warning to England players
During a live show on BBC Radio, Michael Vaughan slammed Brydon Carse for his indiscipline. The former English captain believes he should face a harsh punishment to set an example for the whole cricket team, so that everyone who breaches the rules and misbehaves off the field will have to face the consequences.
"Someone is going to have to get a punishment that sends a shiver down the whole England cricket team and right down through the programme, so that everyone knows that if you misbehave or bring any kind of bad reputation on to this team, you know what's going to come," former England captain Vaughan told BBC Radio 5 Live. "It's the only punishment that will really hurt players."
Have any other players been involved in nightclub controversy apart from Brydon Carse?
This is not the first time that any English cricketer has been involved in a controversy. Back in December 2025, vice-captain Harry Brook had a physical altercation with a bouncer as he was punched by the bouncer outside a nightclub in Wellington, New Zealand, with Jacob Bethell and Josh Tongue also present.
During the Ashes in Australia, opener Ben Duckett was caught drunk on England's holiday in Noosa. Recently, Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were involved in a fight with a former Rugby player in a London nightclub. As both the cricketers were suspended from the 2nd Test match, just like Carse.
Will Brydon Carse face all the punishments?
Michael Vaughan also felt bad and feared that if Brydon Carse had to face all the consequences due to the past incidents, he might get heavily punished by the ECB, as a total of eight centrally contracted players have been involved in or present for late-night incidents in the past year.
"I hope Carse is getting good support around him," said Vaughan. "He is a character who can be a little bit loose and if you give him a bit of rope he'll take a huge amount of it. He needs people around him who are giving him better advice.
"I would feel for Carse if he is the one who takes the rap for what has happened over the past nine months, but somewhere, somehow, something has to be done to set a precedent that they won't stand for that behaviour any more."
