England’s rotation policy, which was partly responsible for their Test series loss against India, once again came to the fore after their T20 rubber defeat. Moeen Ali, who returned home after playing only one Test, did not get an opportunity in the shortest format as the tourists stuck with Sam Curran for providing the late flourish. Nevertheless, Curran could not make a significant impact with the bat or ball and many wondered if Ali would have made the difference.

Moeen Ali featured in the second Test as a second spinner along with Jack Leach, replacing Dom Bess. He picked up eight wickets in the Test and blasted a quick-fire 43 in the second innings; however, it went in vain as India cruised to victory by 317 runs. The 33-year old has earned a spot in England’s ODI squad for the three-match ODI series against India and he will likely get an opportunity to prove himself.
