Australian bowler Mitchell Starc shared an interesting story from the IPL 2024 final between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Mitchell Starc revealed that Angkrish Raghuvanshi said that the IPL-winning team received a smaller amount than the salary of the Australian pacer.

Mitchell Starc was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a record-breaking ₹24.75 crore during the auction in December last year. Starc became the costliest player in the history of IPL auctions. He played a crucial role in helping the Knight Riders secure their third title in this year's T20 tournament.

The Shreyas Iyer-led team defeated SunRisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 26. They bowled out the Sunrisers for just 113 runs, the lowest total in an IPL final. Mitchell Starc led the charge by taking two wickets for 14 runs in the summit clash.

Killed The Vibe Already - Mitchell Starc

Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast, Mitchell Starc revealed that his team, KKR, received less prize money for winning the IPL title than his auction price. Starc noted that the presentation ceremony was significantly delayed after the game, which affected the atmosphere.

“Any chance of a presentation or two hours later, so the game finished at 10 p.m. The presentation hadn't even started by midnight. So we're like, killed the vibe already. Sitting down and young Angkrish, who's our number three. They see the winner's cheques come over. Team gets 20 crore for winning the final. He goes, it's not even what you got paid,” Starc said.

Mitchell Starc dismissed in-form batsman Abhishek Sharma for just two runs in the first over of the final match. Starc bowled a delivery that clipped the top of the off stump. Travis Head was dismissed for a duck by Vaibhav Arora. Starc took his second wicket, reducing the opposition to 47-4 within seven overs.

The Shreyas Iyer-led team chased down the target with more than nine overs to spare in the match. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39 runs off 32 balls) and Venkatesh Iyer (52 off 26) chipped in with useful contributions with the bat. Starc was named "Player of the Match" for his impactful bowling performance in the final.

The 34-year-old bowler was instrumental in the Knight Riders' IPL victory after a decade. The left-arm pacer finished the season with 17 wickets in 14 games at an average of 26.11 and an economy rate of 10.61. He also made history by being the first player to win the Player of the Match award twice during the IPL playoffs.

Starc is likely to be next seen in action when Australia takes on England in the upcoming white-ball series in September. England will host the three T20I matches from September 11 to 15, followed by a five-match ODI series from September 19 to 29.
