MLC 2023: Sunil Narine Named Captain Of Los Angeles Knight Riders

Veteran spinner Sunil Narine will be leading Los Angeles Knight Riders in the upcoming first edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC), the franchise has announced. The much-awaited tournament is scheduled to begin later this week on Friday (July 13).

MLC is the first high-profile T20 competition played in the United States and the stakeholders are hopeful that it will play a big role in making cricket popular in the country. In the first game of the tournament, Los Angeles Knight Riders will be up against Texas Super Kings at the Grand Prairie Stadium.

Sunil Narine to lead Knight Riders franchise:

Sunil Narine is associated with the Knight Riders franchise for more than a decade now and he has now been rewarded with the captaincy for the Los Angeles-based outfit. The West Indies star joined Kolkata Knight Riders way back in 2012 and has been with the franchise since then. He has been a key member of the team for over a decade now and was the star with the ball when they won the IPL in 2012 and 2014.

The spinner represents the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20. He even led the Abu Dhabi-based franchise in the inaugural edition of the ILT20 a few months ago.

Apart from Sunil Narine, several other KKR players are also in the Los Angeles-based franchise like Lockie Ferguson, Jason Roy, and Andre Russell. The other big names on the team are Adam Zampa, Martin Guptill, and Rilee Rossouw.
