A part of Pakistani cricketers got a moment to take a breath of relief, not because anything good related to their team happened, but because of the loss of Team India on February 22 against South Africa. South Africa defeated Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India by 76 runs in their first match of the Super 8 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Pakistan seamer Mohammad Amir has been constantly saying that India might not be good enough to play the semifinals. For him, both South Africa and the West Indies played better cricket than India in the group stage. Then, as soon as the comments went on air, fans started to troll Amir.

Mohammad Yousuf backed Mohammad Amir

After the match, the scenario changed completely as India got a reality check. After the match, Amir got the support from his countryman Mohammad Yousuf, who labelled him a true "menace" and urged him to give India the space for the side to “breathe” as they are already under fire.

"Oye, @iamamirofficial, you menace! You tormented #India on the field, and now you’re rattling them from the studio. Let them breathe; they’re already under fire. South Africa, the finalists, have picked up right where they left off last #T20WorldCup. A formidable side! The top order stumbled, but the lower order delivered, and the bowling discipline was exceptional,” Yousuf wrote on X.

Summary of the India vs South Africa match in Ahmedabad

Talking about the India vs South Africa match, the Proteas went to bat first and instantly fell into trouble because of fiery spells from Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh with the new ball. Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, and Ryan Rickelton departed cheaply. South Africa was down by 3 batters only for 20 in 4 overs.

The momentum started to change when Dewald Brevis and David Miller joined the party. This combination of the young and experienced batter took the momentum away from the Men in Blue. Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir's team failed to utilise whatever they chalked up for the middle overs. Inclusion of Washington Sundar did not work at all for the team. The Men in Blue included Sundar in place of the vice-captain, Axar Patel.

A 76-run defeat!

South Africa scored 187 for 7 in their 20-over limit. The target was competitive but was not beyond the grip of the Indian batters. Under pressure, the batting attack collapsed, and South Africa eventually won the match by 76 runs. The result against South Africa not only hurt India's momentum but also affected the net run rate of the team.

To stay relevant in the title race, the Men in Blue will have to win their remaining two games of the Super 8, which are against Zimbabwe and the West Indies.
