Former Indian middle-order batsman Mohammad Kaif has expressed his disappointment at the treatment dished out to Kuldeep Yadav by the Indian management. The upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka looks Kuldeep Yadav’s best chance to reinstate himself as a regular fixture in the side. Mohammad Kaif expects the stand-in coach Rahul Dravid to manage the wrist-spinner better.
Kuldeep Yadav had a phenomenal start to his international career back in 2017 and was a genuine wicket-taking bowler. However, since IPL 2019 and the World Cup after that, the 26-year old has looked a pale shadow of himself. Yadav’s mediocre international outings have meant that he has not been able to nail a place in Kolkata Knight Riders’ playing XI either.
Mohammad Kaif reckons that the team management has not treated Kuldeep Yadav well and that makes him sad. Kaif underlined that not many players can bowl Chinaman and that it’s a gift. The 40-year old feels that Rahul Dravid would handle him better in Sri Lanka.
“Sometime I get disappointed when I see Kuldeep not getting managed properly. Because as a Chinaman… he has a special quality, not everyone can bowl Chinaman. It’s a gift, I think Rahul Dravid will look after him in Sri Lanka,” Kaif told Star Sports.
You are not going to see players like him every day: Mohammad Kaif
Mohammad Kaif further stated that special players like Kuldeep Yadav do not come often. Thus, it’s the management’s job to back them to the fullest. The cricketer-turned-commentator highlighted that the players, in turn, also need to repay the management’s faith in this regard.
“You are not going to see players like him every day, he has a unique talent. If you want such players to perform for you, then you need the senior players and captain to back them. So it’s your (team management) responsibility to manage these kind of players well, and the player must also be mindful of their body language when backed by the think tank,” he added.
