Team India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been directed by the Calcutta High Court to pay ₹4 lakh per month as alimony to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. Shami and Hasin have been involved in legal controversies for years now, and the court's decision is seen as a major legal setback for the cricketer.

Hasin Jahan is a former model and married Mohammed Shami in 2014. The couple welcomed a daughter the following year. However, their relationship took a drastic turn in 2018 when Jahan made serious allegations against Shami, including domestic violence, dowry harassment, and even match-fixing.

Court Orders Mohammed Shami to Pay ₹4 Lakh Monthly Alimony to Estranged Wife

Mohammed Shami has been ordered by the Calcutta High Court to pay ₹4 lakh per month in alimony to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. Shami must pay ₹1.5 lakh for Jahan’s maintenance, while ₹2.5 lakh is for the care and expenses of their daughter, Aaira.

The court has also ruled that this payment will be imposed retroactively from 2018, the year Jahan filed the case under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

"In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs 1,50,000 per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and Rs 2,50,000 to her daughter would be just, fair, and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both petitioners," Justice Mukherjee stated in his order (via India Today).

Hasin Jahan Demanded ₹7 Lakh Monthly Alimony from Mohammed Shami

Back in 2018, Hasin Jahan had demanded ₹7 lakh per month in alimony from Mohammed Shami, but her request was initially rejected on the grounds that she was earning through modelling.

She later challenged this ruling. The Alipore Court had directed Shami to pay ₹80,000 per month for the maintenance of both his wife and daughter. This amount was later revised by a district judge to ₹50,000 for Jahan and ₹80,000 for their daughter, totaling ₹1.3 lakh per month.

Jahan then moved to the Calcutta High Court, stating her monthly expenses were around ₹6.5 lakh. She also claimed that despite Shami earning nearly ₹7.5 crore annually, he was not offering sufficient financial support.

Mohammed Shami Endured a Poor Return to Indian Side Post Injury

Shami has struggled to regain form after returning from a long injury break in 2024. The senior pacer featured in two ODIs against England and also played in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Shami managed to take 11 wickets across seven games at an economy rate of around six runs per over. However, he delivered a key performance in the semifinal against Australia, claiming 3 for 48 in 10 overs.

His struggles continued in the 2025 IPL, where he represented SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Shami picked up just six wickets in nine matches at a high average of 56.16 and an economy rate of 11 runs. He was dropped from India’s squad for the ongoing Test series against England.
