A piece of good news for the IPL franchises is that most, if not all, of the Australian players in their teams are expected to turn up at the remainder of the IPL 2021, which would be played in the UAE in the September-October window right before the T20 World Cup.

Earlier, it was believed that with the packed international cricket – Australia have a white-ball series line-up before the T20 World Cup and the home Ashes after it – the Australian players won’t be travelling for the second phase of the IPL 2021.

However, now, if a report in Cricbuzz is to be believed most of the cricketers from Down Under, barring Pat Cummins, who has hinted his unavailability earlier, will turn up to complete their participation in the tournament. It includes the likes of David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams, and Marcus Stoinis, all of whom have skipped the tour of West Indies and Bangladesh for personal reasons.

There were about 20 Australian players, including those who came in as replacements in the IPL 2021.

According to the same report, the IPL franchises have been given assurance by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that most foreign players will turn up for the IPL. The BCCI is also trying to convince the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to let the English players take part although ECB has earlier already stated that their players won’t be made available for the UAE leg of the IPL 2021.

Hard to justify going back and playing that second half of the IPL: Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch, Australia’s white-ball captain, has stated his opinion that it would be “hard to justify” for the Australian cricketers to miss out on international matches but play in the IPL.

A major reason for the overseas cricketers to join the IPL in the UAE would be to acclimatize themselves with the conditions there before the T20 World Cup, which has now been shifted to the UAE from India.

“This is only my personal opinion, I think they would find it hard to justify going back and playing that second half of the IPL purely based on the workload coming up with a T20 World Cup then a huge home summer,” Finch told SEN WA while speaking to Adam Gilchrist.

“It’s a tough situation everyone has been put in but personally I’d find it hard to do that knowing how challenging it is mentally and on your family.”
